Anxiety
Wherever you are, be there. If you can be fully present now, you’ll know what it means to live
- Steve Goodier
Everyone feels anxious at times.
Anxiety is a natural response to things like stress or uncertainty. And contrary to what you might think, anxiety can be positive – acting as a warning sign when you’re in danger, bringing awareness to a situation you need to change, or motivating you to take action. But when anxiety disrupts your life, persistently impacts your work or relationships, or leaves you with overwhelming feelings of nervousness or dread, you may wish to seek support.
Common experiences:
- Irrational fear
- Excessive worrying, nervousness or apprehension
- Difficulty concentrating or managing everyday tasks
- Being tense, jumpy, irritable or restless
- Feeling on edge
- Anticipating the worst
- Avoidance of people or activities
- Trouble sleeping, including extreme tiredness
- Shortness of breath, heart palpitations, feeling like a weight is in your chest or throat
- Headaches, tense muscles, nausea
- Shakiness or trembling
At a minimum, anxiety can be distracting. At worst, it can be all-consuming. You aren’t alone. According to Health Canada, anxiety disorders are the most common of all mental health issues, affecting about 1 in 10 Canadians. Jennifer will work with you to help identify and understand what’s causing your anxiety, and develop an action plan complete with tools and individual strategies to help you overcome or manage it.
