Loss & Bereavement
What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us
- Helen Keller
Loss, of any kind, is one of the most
painful parts of life.
You can grieve as a result of any number of events or things – the death of a loved one or pet; a shattered worldview or shedding an old self; the end of a friendship, relationship or job; or the loss of one’s capacity due to injury or illness. Grief doesn’t happen in a straight line either. We experience it in our own way.
Common reactions or feelings after a loss:
- Guilt
- Denial
- Disbelief
- Shock
- Confusion
- Sadness
- Anger
- Humiliation
- Despair
- Withdrawal
